The Qatar Policy Briefings

February 2, 2025 - February 5, 2025 Doha, Qatar
The Development Champions representatives from the Rethinking Yemen’s Economy (RYE) initiative held policy briefings in Doha from February 2–5, 2025, to discuss Yemen’s pressing economic and political issues.
On February 3, the Development Champions conducted two panel discussions during a public event co-hosted by the Middle East Council on Global Affairs. The first panel explored the economic dimensions of the ongoing peace-making process in Yemen, including challenges facing banking, manufacturing and trade. Panelists discussed the interplay between economic conditions and efforts toward sustainable peace.
The second panel focused on Yemen’s economic collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasizing post-conflict reconstruction opportunities. The session outlined strategic pathways to strengthen Yemen-GCC economic relations and identify potential frameworks for regional partnerships.
Following the public event, the delegation met with policymakers from Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss ways to support Yemen’s economic recovery. Discussions covered potential cooperation mechanisms, development financing, youth empowerment, and alignment of strategic priorities between Yemen and Qatar.
These briefings aimed to enhance the understanding of Yemeni economic and political developments among Qatari stakeholders, facilitate collaboration, and advance policy recommendations supporting peace and sustainable economic recovery in Yemen.
