The Eighth Development Champions Forum

May 24, 2023 - May 26, 2023 Amman, Jordan

The eighth session of the Development Champions Forum, held within the framework of the Rethinking Yemen's Economy initiative from October 30th to November 2nd, 2022, was convened in Amman, Jordan. The central focus of discussions was the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in the renewable energy sector in Yemen.

On the inaugural day of the forum, the Development Champions delved into an in-depth analysis of the macroeconomic landscape, examining the repercussions of the political context on Yemen's economy. Their deliberations aimed at identifying potential pathways to alleviate the adverse effects of prevailing political challenges, with a keen aspiration to enhance the overall economic and humanitarian conditions in the country.

Days 2 and 3 of the forum were dedicated to explore the need to scale up public-private partnerships in the renewable energy sector in Yemen. The Development Champions emphasized the critical need to broaden these partnerships as a strategic solution to the existing challenges faced by the government in the electricity sector. The forum will publish a policy brief on public private partnerships in the renewable energy sector in Yemen.

The Rethinking Yemen’s Economy initiative is implemented by DeepRoot Consulting, Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies, and the Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient (CARPO) and funded by the European Union and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
